Another beautiful (but rainy and cloudy) in Western Australia. I made on spot booking with Kandu Holidays for another day trip to Margaret River. I didn't read much about Margaret River region but mom told me about it. Based on my visit to Margaret River, well, it is located south-east of Perth and it is 3 hours away. There were so many beautiful places worth visiting along the way to Margaret River. The Margaret River itself has numerous attractions and things to enjoy here.
The long 3 hours journey and the dark grey clouds didn't bore me at all. I enjoy watching the view of grazing fields and interesting vegetation along the freeway. I, for second, thought that I was dreaming and it was quite unbelievable to know that I managed to set foot on this lovely country. I was hoping to see sheeps and Fresian cows crowding the green grazing field but given that it was winter and rainy, that possibility was definitely less than 50%. And for seconds, I was hoping that I could enjoy this beauty with the one I love back in Malaysia. Oh dear...I must have been delusional then. Hehe...
We passed through several cities and as I have remembered, Bunburry, being the largest port city in Western Australia (I hope I'm giving the wrong fact) and then Busselton. We stopped at Busselton for morning tea. Busselton is famous for its underwater observatory jetty. But with the rain and harsh sea condition, the observatory was closed to visitors. Underwater turbulent definitely caused sands, sediments and other particles being swept away and reduced the visibility. I wondered how would the view be like when this happened. I dove in turbid water before but I didn't think it would be the same like this. I saw a few photos of Busselton jetty in perfect weather, they were awesome and beautiful. Oh by the way, there was visitor information center if anyone wished to get the overview of the observatory, and a souvenir shop which is a bit pricey. I thought
After a relaxing morning tea in Busselton, we headed to Margaret River town, just to have a quick peek at it. Owh, by the way, I got myself a fridge magnet and a post card. Items sold there are expensive because of its status as tourist attractions. I think it's a little unfair to rise the price just because of it is a tourist spot. Nevermind that. As long as I manage to get something to remind me of Margaret River, it is good enough.
Next stop was Candy Cow. This place sells various sweet snacks , fudges in particular. This would be a very interesting place for those who have sweet tooth. I took the chance to taste several fudge flavors, bubblegum, chocolate mint and lemon cheese. The fudges were small in small packages and I bought 2 flavors. Thought of buying more but I thought it was better not to overspend on sweet stuff. I only knew chocolate fudge but here, I got to know various flavors of fudge. I had no idea what are the ingredients but I a wild guess would be egg white and sugar.

Next visit was cheese factory. Here, we got the chance to taste various types of cheeses, some of which was weird such as the smoked cheese. It tasted, well, smokey. Hehe...the prices of the cheeses depended on the flavors and wrappings. I bought Chilly Cheese for my elder sister, hoping that she would do something clever with it. Tried to take some photos but the quality of the photos was horrible. But I insisted on posting it here.

Lulu being forced to pose for the cute flowers. It is supposed to be some lilac colours but did't appear here. |
Next stop was at Nuts & Cereals centre. This is definitely a good place for buying many kinds of healthy snacks. But I couldn't find any walnut here. There were also yogurts and flavored nuts sold here. I love all sorts of nuts but didn't buy anything as I left my wallet in the commuter.
Next stop was quite exciting at first, Margaret River Chocolate factory. Well, this outlet is larger than the one we visited at Swan Valley, and far less people, or no people at all. We tried 3 kinds of chocolate chips and personally, I still prefer Cadbury than any other chocolates in the world. Again, I didn't buy anything here because it pretty expensive and the chocolates don't blend well with my taste buds. Haha....Well, snapping photos at the signboard was a must and there was a nice maple tree with red leaves. My obsession with red-orange-yellow-leaves trees was getting more obvious from time to time, suggesting that I would be enjoying the colours of mid-autumn that much. And what will happen when I visited places with flowers blooming everywhere in spring? Subhanallah, I can't stop thinking of how beautiful the Earth is and the beauty does not disappear even for a second. That was only a small stand alone maple tree that truly touched my heart. What if I am surrounded by hundreds of trees with different shades of colours? Everyone who loves nature will understand how I feel.
Bunny jump, or maybe kangaroo jump. |
This was the maple tree I mentioned about. |
The last place visited for our final day in Western Australia was Ngilgi Cave, or known as Yalingup Cave before. This cave is located at Yalingup, in Margaret River region. This was a different cave then the caves I've visited in Vietnam and Laos. While exploring this cave, we were given some good information on the formation of the protrusions of calcium carbonates structures (the stalactites, stalagmites and the helictites). From a cave, scientists are able to estimate the geographical and biological characteristics of the land above the cave. These includes the types of soils, the flora and fauna living on the ground for hundred thousands of years ago, and the age of the cave itself. The new interesting information I obtained was that the stalactites and stalagmites were vulnerable to human touches and they grow!! They can die if in contact with human skin, due to skin acid present on the skin. This acid eventually alter the chemical changes of the structures which causes the structures to darken. I still curious on the chemical reactions that caused the death of the structures. On top of that, these structures grow 1 cm for every 100 years!! Woww..no wonder it is so unwise to get highly emotionally involved with a single structure in the cave. The probability to live and see they grow to 1 cm in length is 0.
Oh..ohh..by the way, I walked around within the cave with my stiletto boots, and I did it well. Haha....After the so-called cave exploration, we had lunch and returned back to Perth around 3.30 pm. It was already dark when we arrived our lodging place.
So that was all for our final day in Western Australia. At night, I started packing our luggages reluctantly.
